Employability Skills

A one-day workshop which equips participants with the skills and knowledge they need to assist their clients with applying for job vacancies by putting together unique, well written CVs, cover letters and supporting statements. Increasing their client’s chances of gaining interviews by writing stand-out cover letters/emails and, once they are in work, supporting them in maintaining employment and progressing in their workplace.

Course contains

  • Understanding how to write an effective CV, particularly for those with convictions and the long-term unemployed
  • Identifying and avoiding the most common mistakes made in CVs
  • Understanding both effective content and formatting of a CV
  • Following guidelines for completion of application forms
  • Taking a structured and comprehensive approach to writing the application form’s supporting statement
  • Outlining the need for covering letters and emails
  • Ensuring the covering letter/email is written and structured in order to sell the application form or CV
  • Understanding the reasons why people struggle to maintain employment
  • Developing strategies to help people cope with difficulties in employment in order to maintain it.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course participants will be able to assist with:

  • disclosure of convictions when applying for work
  • writing an effective and professional CV
  • completing a job application form, including an effective supporting statement
  • writing a professional covering letter/email
  • maintaining existing employment for offenders who are in work
