  1. Homelessness Reduction Act: Update

    The Homelessness Reduction Act (HRA) introduced new duties on local authorities for those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Following implementation of the Act from April 2018, this course covers the duties to prevent and relieve homelessness and looks at applicants’ right to review. Delegates will consider how the duties apply to a range of threatened homelessness situations, looks at the new public authority duty to refer and. It identifies the review and appeal rights that arise from the new duties. Note: this course is also being held on 4th October in London and 27th November in Manchester with the slightly amended title of 'Homelessness Reduction Act: Six Months On'

  3. Housing Law and Advice: a Foundation (Part B)

    This course is aimed at front line staff and volunteers, as well as back up staff such as administrators who may be signposting clients. There will be an emphasis on the options available to single homeless people, but some of the options will be relevant to families.     This course provides an understanding of how mortgages work and the options available to borrowers who, for whatever reason, are unable to meet their payments.   10. Suitability of Accommodation

    This course will provide delegates with a better understanding of the suitability of accommodation which has become increasingly important following the Localism Act 2012 that has enabled LHAs to discharge into the private rented sector. The law in this area is constantly changing due to legislation, statutory instruments and an influx of cases including a Supreme Court case. This course will give advisers, both working for LHAs and otherwise, the confidence to decide whether accommodation being offered is suitable.
