When the space above our Erdington furniture shop became available, one of our van drivers Brian had the brilliant idea to use the space for upcycling, expanding our already successful furniture shop model. Brian has now single-handedly transformed the space into Shelter’s first ever Upcycling Workshop; the aim of which is to reduce landfill, upskill our volunteers, provide service users with essential skills and to produce high quality upcycled items to sell both in the Erdington shop and online.

“We do all sorts from chairs to dressing tables. I love it, it doesn’t feel like work, more like a hobby. But It’s so important because we are helping the planet, stopping furniture being thrown out, giving local people skills to help with future jobs and selling furniture that raises money for Shelter to help those who need it.” Brian, Upcycling Workshop Manager
