This course outlines a three-stage approach for using basic counselling skills with service users, as well as looking at boundaries for personal involvement and managing stress.

  • How the principles and skills of counselling can be applied to supporting vulnerable tenants
  • Elements of good practice in counselling that support service users to move towards independence
  • A three-stage approach to using basic counselling skills with service users
  • Communication, listening, questioning and feedback skills to involve service users in assessment and planning
  • How to draw boundaries to your personal involvement and manage your own stress levels
  • How to evaluate your own skills and further development through self-assessment and action planning.

Suitable for

Anyone within the advice or housing sectors who work closely with clients, but is not a trained counsellor. Note: This is not an accredited/recognised counselling skills qualification.
