FAQ - Sustainability

We take sustainability seriously at Shelter and have been exploring ways we can become more environmentally conscious with our packaging.

Do you use sustainable packaging?

All preloved items are posted in fully recyclable brown paper packaging.

Our Christmas & merchandise orders are currently sent in FSC certified Jiffy mailers, which do have a plastic bubble protective cushioning bonded inside the mailer. This is something we're currently looking at changing to become more sustainable. For the time being we want to encourage our supporters to reuse the packaging your items arrive in. You can even take advantage of our sort & send service and send any unwanted items back to us as donations free of charge.

Please follow this link for more information and a freepost label.

How is the foil and packaging of your chocolate sustainable?

Our 2021 emergency chocolate packaging is fully recyclable, the outer cardboard packaging is compostable and they also have compostable foil, the foil is made from Eucalyptus pulp.

Our Christmas 2022 new chocolate bars have the same sustainable packaging which is fully compostable.

Are your cards FSC certified?

Our cards are made from FSC certified responsible sources.

We're always looking at ways we can improve our approach towards sustainability, and we'll be updating these pages to keep you up-to-date with our progress. If you have any queries or suggestions around this then we’d love to hear these. We’re getting better and really want to do as much as we can to be a more sustainable organisation.
